Nov 2019 — Canadians must hold government accountable to its promises https://www.thestar.com/opinion/letters_to_the_editors/2019/10/29/canadians-must-hold-government-accountable-to-its-promises.html?fbclid=IwAR3hdQtXCxxfJHg-_maqs3JnsnFbhu_DBeKhHLPPdEUJsRIXzovlKCQFr_g

Over the past 3 months, we heard proposals, read platforms and watched debates. Canadians turned out to vote in reportedly big numbers. But now the next 4 years is what counts. We, as citizens, need first to do the work of following up on the estimated 50+ promises made by the government. And let’s go one step further: track outcomes. Proposals and spending don’t mean anything if they don’t improve outcomes.

I don’t think there is an easy way to do this other than for us to stay with it and keep trying different things such as persistently following a couple of issues we find particularly important, supporting friends and family who care about others, organizing to create awareness and engaging government representatives to challenge status quo. It is not as direct as voting but this is also what builds towards the vision we each have for this great country.
